This Leica M3 is a truly special example of the iconic camera, fully restored in our workshop to the highest standards. What sets this camera apart is its rangefinder. For some time, we’ve had a brand new, unused M3 rangefinder assembly in our possession—a rare find indeed. While it could have been sold as a collectible spare part, we chose to integrate it into this camera, giving it a second life in the best possible way.
Both the rangefinder and the brightline mask are brand new stock. The brightline mask features depth-of-field notches on the rangefinder patch for added precision. Alongside this upgrade, the rest of the camera has undergone a meticulous overhaul. This includes:
• Complete dismantling
• New light seals
• Baffle repainted matte black
• Cleaning and relubrication of all shutter components, transport and advance mechanisms, self-timer, and slow-speed escapement
• Adjustment of shutter slit width, blind tensions, and final calibration of shutter speeds and brakes, finished with our signature ‘W’ wax seal.
The rangefinder has been carefully calibrated at both infinity and 1m and offers focusing down to 0.75m for precise shooting.
This camera, dating to circa 1955, was factory-upgraded at some point to the later single-stroke advance and geometric shutter speeds (1/125th, 1/250th, etc.), while retaining the highly desirable “Buddha ear” strap lugs, which show little to no signs of wear. It also features a metal pressure plate for smooth film handling.
As part of its restoration, the body has been professionally reskinned with our impressive vulcanite replacement. With the brand-new rangefinder installed, we also added a new eyepiece and sapphire crystal windows. For convenience, a Rapid Load Kit will be installed before shipping, and the original spool will be included.
The internal condition of the camera is excellent. Externally, while there are no dents or dings, there are a few bright marks on the chrome plating from meter and tripod use—minor signs of a well-loved camera with history.
